WhatsApp has rolled out a series of updates designed to improve user interaction on the platform. These updates introduce new features aimed at making messaging more customizable, efficient, and visually engaging, alongside several design enhancements.
One standout feature is the addition of camera effects for photos and videos shared in chats. Users can now apply a variety of 30 different filters, backgrounds, and visual effects to their images before sending them. This builds upon the video call tools introduced last year, giving users even more creative options within messaging.
Another exciting update is the introduction of selfie stickers. This feature allows users to transform their selfies into personalized stickers to share in chats. Simply tap the “Create Sticker” icon, take a selfie, and instantly create a custom sticker. Currently available on Android, iOS support is expected soon.

WhatsApp is also streamlining the sharing of sticker packs. If you find a sticker pack you think a friend would like, you can now easily share it directly within chats. This is a convenient addition for sticker enthusiasts looking to expand their collections.
Message reactions have also received enhancements, making them more efficient. Users can now double-tap a message to react, offering a quicker alternative to the previous long-press method. Additionally, a new scrolling pop-out menu will show your most-used emojis for faster access, while the full emoji library remains available through the reaction bar’s “+” icon. This update brings WhatsApp in line with other platforms, like Discord, where frequently used reactions are readily accessible.
Unlike Meta’s Messenger app, which offers a fixed set of emojis for reactions, WhatsApp’s new update adds a level of personalization, which is likely to be appreciated by many users.
WhatsApp has indicated that these updates are just the beginning of what’s planned for 2025, with a continued focus on improving the messaging experience while maintaining strong privacy and security measures for users worldwide.
