X (formerly Twitter) is expanding into the TV interface, enabling users to access X directly on their television, similar to other OTT platforms like Netflix. Elon Musk announced that the beta version of the X TV app has already been launched for Android TV. The beta is currently available on LG, Amazon Fire TV, and Google TV devices, with plans to expand to more devices in the future.
While the full release date hasn’t been confirmed, the app rollout varies by device. For instance, Amazon users gained access in late July, while LG users received it on August 29.
X TV App: Key Features

With X entering the TV market, it’s clear that it’s aiming to be more than just a social media platform. According to descriptions and images on Google Play, the X TV app is set to function like an OTT streaming service. The description highlights that “X-Stream Service TV is a fantastic streaming service exclusively for X-Stream Services Internet Subscribers. Enjoy TV your way—anytime, anywhere. No set-top box required! Instantly access your favorite live Local, News, Sports, Movies, Music, and Weather channels.”
The X TV app includes the following features:
- Replay TV – With Replay TV, users can access up to 72 hours of stored content in the cloud, so missing favorite shows is a thing of the past.
- Startover TV – Allows viewers to start a show or movie from the beginning, even if it’s already in progress.
- Free Cloud DVR – Provides up to 100 hours of DVR storage at no cost, with options to increase storage if needed.
X TV App: Getting Started
To access the beta, users need an X account. Currently, the X TV app is available only for Android smart TVs. Simply search for the X TV app on your smart TV to download and start streaming.
Subscription details are yet to be disclosed and are likely to be announced on the official launch date.
The introduction of the X TV app provides users with a new way to consume content, though it may introduce more competition for established OTT platforms like YouTube and other streaming services.
