Elon Musk Announces Beta Release as X TV App Prepares for Launch

X (formerly Twitter) is now expanding into the TV interface, allowing users to access X directly on their television, much like other OTT platforms such as Netflix. Elon Musk has announced that the beta version of the X TV app has already been released for Android TV. Currently, the beta version is available on LG, Amazon Fire TV, and Google TV devices, with the possibility of being rolled out to additional devices in the future.

While the actual launch date for broader availability remains unclear, the app’s rollout is expected to vary across different devices. For example, Amazon users gained access in late July, while LG users received it on August 29.

X TV App: Everything You Need to Know

As X expands into the TV space, the question arises: will it remain just a social media platform? The answer appears to be no. Based on the description and screenshots available on Google Play, the X TV app is set to function as a new OTT streaming service. It reads, “X-Stream Service TV is a fantastic streaming TV service exclusively available to X-Stream Services Internet Subscribers. Enjoy TV on your terms—anytime and anywhere. No need for set-top box rentals! Access all your favorite live Local, News, Sports, Movies, Music, and Weather channels instantly or watch them later.”

The X TV app also offers a range of features, including –

  • Replay TV – Say goodbye to missing your favorite shows! With Replay TV, X-Stream Services stores up to 72 hours of content in the cloud, allowing you to access your favorite programs instantly.
  • Startover TV – Never miss the start of a movie or show again. The Startover TV feature lets you begin watching from the very beginning, ensuring you catch every moment.
  • Free Cloud DVR – Enjoy up to 100 hours of DVR recordings at no extra cost. Additional storage options are also available.

X TV App: How to Use It

To access the beta version of the app, you’ll need an X account. Currently, the X TV app is available exclusively for Android smart TVs. Simply search for X TV and install the app on your smart TV to start watching.

Details on how to subscribe to the application remain unclear and are expected to be revealed on the launch date.

The introduction of the X TV app will provide users with an additional content consumption option. However, this development may not be welcome news for other OTT platforms and video streaming services such as YouTube.
